Weekly Update October 28, 2026
Hello! My name is Bob, and I’m so upset over the small size of the candy they sell today (seriously - 0.3 ounces is not a “fun” size!) that I want to write a letter to complain! The only problem is that I can’t figure out who’s in charge of the Board of Candy Regulation. So, I’m writing this week’s Amory’s Tomb Newsletter instead!
Before we get to Halloween, I want to alert you that next week’s newsletter will contain details on the Amory’s Tomb 8th Anniversary Brunch! You’ll want to be sure to not let this one go directly to your spam like usually happens!
Speaking of Halloween, I’ll be distributing those tiny candies (take 4 please!) at my house on Saturday night. Maybe you will be too, but if not you should know that Amory’s Tomb will be open. Allen says they’ll be screening a horror B-movie on Halloween. Nobody knows which one yet, but whatever they show, you can bet it’ll be eeeevvvviiiillll!
Which leads us to the night before Halloween…
FEATURED EVENT
Asleep in a Box Returns on October 30th for a Very Special Michael Myers Tribute!
Asleep in a Box, the electronic jam band that has become Amory’s Tomb’s house band, returns on October 30th for their final Beer Garden performance of 2026!
If you are wondering what Asleep in a Box sounds like, I suggest going to your favorite music streaming service and checking out “06/12/26”, Asleep in a Box’s latest release. It’s a recording of their Beer Garden set from that date earlier this year. To me, this one seems to emphasize the “jam” aspect of the electronic jam band description while their last release, “05/02/26” leaned more on the electronic element. They are both worth your time, though!
Assuming you like what you hear (because how could you not?) you can check out Asleep in a Box in the Beer Garden again on 10/30/26, this time with their Tribute to Michael Myers.
Ah, but here’s the question! Which Michael Myers are they honoring? Is it Michael Myers, the killer from the “Halloween Movies”? Or will they honor famous comedy actor Mike Myers? Fortunately, when faced with this vexing conundrum, Asleep in a Box reached a conclusion worthy of King Solomon himself:
“We’ll honor both Michael Myerses”!
It is Halloween Eve, so I am sure you’ll get plenty of references to the movie killer. But I won’t be surprised if you get a sampled “Shwing!”, “Yeah, baby” and “We’re not worthy! We’re not worthy!” too.
Asleep in a Box have been killing it (no pun intended) all year in the Beer Garden, and the Michael Myers Tribute promises to be a fitting end to the outdoor season for them.
But forget the movie murderer. If they really want to lean into a scary Michael Myers for Halloween, I suggest they sample the live action version of “Cat in a Hat”, starring the comic actor (and with respect to this move, I use that term very loosely) himself. Truly frightening! That movie is far more difficult to sit through than whatever AT will be showing on Halloween night!
FEATURED DRAUGHT
New Golden Bitter Ale Released!
Surprise! Allen and Rick brewed a brand new beer, and it’s just been released! It’s name is Yampy Cut, and it’s a Golden Bitter. It arrived by can last weekend, and will be available on draught and cask this coming week!
I had a can of this beer last Saturday and enjoyed it so much that I immediately ordered and drank a second can. It’s very rare that I order the same beer twice when at AT, so that ought to tell you how much I enjoyed it!
Coming in at 3.9% abv, Yampy Cut was made with 100% Northeast grown grain and traditional floor malts from Blue Ox Malthouse. According to the can, Allen and Rick added in a “hearty hand” of English Bramling Cross hops, which lend the beer “notes of spicy lemon and currants to the bright and toasty malt base”.
Allen told me that he was aiming for the taste of a beer that he loved while visiting England. Normally, if someone told me they were trying to emulate a beer from England, I’d take that comment as more of a threat than a selling point. But Allen and Rick have more than earned the benefit of the doubt with English-style beers at this point, so that’s why I gave it a try as soon as it appeared on the menu.
And after downing my first (then my second!) Yampy Cut, I’d say if anything Allen may be underselling this beer with his comparison to an actual beer from England. When I tasted Yampy Cut, my immediate reaction was that Allen and Rick have once again managed to brew an English-style ale that emphasizes the good part of beers from London while (whilst?) somehow avoiding all the flavors I found off-putting in nearly every ale I have actually consumed in London.
One very welcome way in which this beer resembles a true English ale is its 3.9% abv. That means this beer is eminently sessionable. And I have no idea how much a hearty hand of hops is (maybe “hearty hand” is some English term for volume like how they use “stone” for weight?) but Yampy Cut packs a ton of flavor for a beer at this strength.
To me, British hops are more earthier and considerably less bitter than North American varieties, and this beer brings their taste forward without at all overwhelming the malty backbone of the beer. I very much enjoyed Yampy Cut last Saturday, and it’s easy to envision it becoming my new go-to whenever I visit the Taproom or Beer Garden.
Yampy Cut is available for you to order now on draught and cask, as well as in cans to-go. You should definitely order one! Not only is the beer great, but, at the risk of picking a fight with Giörgū supporters I think “Yampy Cut” is the most enjoyable Amory’s Tomb beer name to say out loud.
Say it with me: Yampy Cut! Yampy Cut! Yampy Cut! YampyYampyYampy! So much fun!
