Weekly Update - November 4, 2026

Hello!  My name is Bob, and thanks to a rigorous regimen of “Berg and a Tube Immersion Therapy”  I no longer dislike the taste of Underberg!  This miracle qualifies me to write this week’s Amory’s Tomb Newsletter!

I’m super-excited about the Featured Event this week, so let’s get right to it:

FEATURED EVENT

Holy Duck!  AT Anniversary Brunch Returns on November 22nd!  Tickets Available Now!

Believe it or not, Amory’s Tomb will be celebrating its 8th Anniversary in a few weeks!  Back in the days of the old taproom, the highlight of each anniversary was a special meal.  Sometimes it was brunch, sometimes it was dinner, but it was always incredible - gourmet food with great beer pairings.

Then the old taproom closed, and for the past few years the anniversary celebration has typically been little more than huddling around a propane heater in the Beer Garden drinking a can of Saison XLII.  While memorable in their own way, these “celebrations” were considerably chillier and definitely less satiating.

Well the good old days are here again!  Amory’s Tomb will be serving a special 8th Anniversary Brunch on Sunday, November 22nd!  There will be 2 seatings, at 11:00am and 2:00pm, and tickets can be purchased below.

Check out the preliminary (subject to change based on ingredient availability or changes of inspiration for Allen) menu for the brunch:

  • First Course: Smoked Trout Dip, served with everything bagel chips

  • Second Course: Salad Lyonnaise, served with warmed sun butter vinaigrette and a soft duck egg

  • Third Course: Duck Leg Confit with Farro Salad

  • Fourth Course: Port Soaked Pears and Blue Cheese

  • Fifth Course: Duck Fat Crème Brûlée with sesame seeds and blackberries

Did you know that duck is Allen’s favorite meat?  Well, you certainly do now!  All 5 of these courses sound great, but I particularly love how the lineup becomes progressively more and more unusual by course.  Seriously - Duck Fat Crème Brûlée??

By the way, you can pre-register for a vegetarian option ahead of time, as well.  You’ll be asked about this when ordering your tickets.

Naturally, each course will be paired with Amory’s Tomb beer.  The pairings will undoubtedly include some of your favorite currently available AT beers, but I bet there will be a surprise or two included as well!

In addition to the food and beer, the Anniversary Brunch will also feature folks who were responsible for a couple of the more memorable special events in the Tap Room over the past year.

First, it’s a brunch, and brunch needs coffee!  And who better to serve coffee in the Taproom than Melted Record Coffee Roasters?  Last spring they served some incredible espresso drinks, and I bet more of the same will be on offer this time.

In addition, Craft More. Rage Less. will return to the Taproom!  You may recall their visit a few months ago, where we were invited to bring in our own clothing and choose among Craft More. Rage Less.’s stamps to add to the clothing to freshen it up.  For example, I had an Amory’s Tomb chalice added to an old t-shirt and now it looks great.

Craft More. Rage Less. will be back on the 22nd, and your ticket to the Anniversary Brunch will entitle you to a free stamp for your piece of clothing!  I’ve already got a red sweatshirt picked out to bring!  (You can also buy a piece of vintage clothing from them, if you’d prefer.)  The chalice is great, and I am hoping they’ll have additional AT-themed stamps this time!

To summarize, on Sunday, November 22nd at 11:00am and 2:00pm, Amory’s Tomb will be celebrating its 8th Anniversary with a special brunch.  You’ll get an amazing 5-course meal prepared by Allen with beer pairings.  Special coffee will be available from Melted Record Coffee Roasters and you can also get your own bespoke piece of clothing to commemorate the event from Craft More. Rage Less.

Here’s the link to purchase your tickets:

Space is limited, so I’d strongly encourage you to purchase your tickets ASAP!  The 8th Anniversary Brunch looks like a worthy successor to the celebrations in the old taproom, and looks the perfect way to celebrate another great year at Amory’s Tomb!

FEATURED DRAUGHT

Yampy Cask Going Fast!  Get it Now Before It’s Gone!

Last week I wrote about Allen and Rick’s new beer, Yampy Cut. In short, it’s a very sessionable English-style Golden Bitter that has very quickly become a favorite in the Taproom.

How popular is it? Well, in addition to having it available on draught and in can, Allen and Rick filled 2 casks with Yampy Cut. The first went on the Taproom menu last Wednesday and was gone by Saturday!

The second cask is on tap now. When that cask is gone, Yampy Cut will still be available on draught, but if you want to drink a truly proper English-style Golden Bitter, you’ll want to get it on cask while you can!

Before it was released last week, Allen had predicted that Yampy Cut would be a great cask beer. When he and Rick are choosing beers to offer on cask, they look for beers that have enough flavor and character to stand up to the lack of CO2.

You see, CO2 is a fine way to deliver draught beer, but the CO2 itself can actually wipe the flavor off of your tongue. Good cask ales, therefore, must rely on the finish since it’ll stay with the person drinking it longer. Beers that are not as acidic and have more minerality and body - like Yampy Cut - tend to be good candidates.

Beyond it simply being a terrific beer, though, I think Yampy Cut cask pours are going fast because Allen and Rick have added a sparkler to the cask tap. The sparkler restricts flow, causing all the carbonation to cascade in the beer as it is pumped. If you get a chance to watch Justin pour one, you’ll immediately see what I mean. It looks sort of like a nitro-beer draught, where it initially appears all foamy in the glass before settling into the actual beer with a creamy head.

According to Allen, the use of a sparkler is a somewhat contentious matter among cask aficionados. Some purists say the sparkler actually knocks the life out of the beer.

Well, I say the heck with those people! The sparkler creates a thick, creamy head that I really enjoy! Besides, sparklers are quite popular in Northern England, and that’s where the word “Yampy” comes from. So I say if anything, Allen and Rick are being traditional by putting a sparkler on Yampy Cut!

Apparently other visitors to Amory’s Tomb agree with me, because as I said up-front, the Yampy Casks are going fast! If you want to try one, I’d recommend going to the Taproom ASAP.

Don’t worry if you miss the last cask of Yampy Cut, though. Allen and Rick have plenty of regular CO2 kegs ready to serve you, and they’ll be terrific too! You’ll be able to visit the Taproom and say “YampyYampyYampy!!!” for a long time!
