Hello! My name is Bob, and the warm weather has made it abundantly clear that my lawn is easily the worst in the neighborhood. Seriously, if it weren't for some of the weeds, I’d have no green at all! To avoid looking out at the patches of dirt in my yard, I’m writing this week’s Amory’s Tomb Newsletter!
Before we get to this week’s news, I need to follow-up on something I wrote a few weeks ago. I wrote about the imminent return of Farm Road on draught. Because you no doubt hang on every word of these newsletters (c’mon, throw me a bone!) I am sure you are wondering why, if it was imminent, it still hasn’t appeared in the Taproom. Well, I have an answer.
According to Allen, “the truck broke”. Seriously. I know this explanation has more than a whiff of “my dog ate my homework” to it, but this is actually what happened. Hopefully, Allen and Rick can find a truck that works this week!
Beyond the (maybe???) overdue return of Farm Road, here’s what else is going on at the Tomb this week:
FEATURED EVENT
Mother’s Day Brunch in the Taproom
Is it just me, or did Mother’s Day kind of sneak up on us this year? I mean, doesn’t it seem like Allen was just serving an amazing Full Irish Breakfast for St. Patrick’s Day like 2 weeks ago?
If Mother’s Day snuck up on you like it did to me, then you are probably looking for something special to do with Mom this Sunday. May I suggest the Mother’s Day Brunch at Amory’s Tomb?
That’s right, Allen is putting together another special brunch for this Sunday, May 10th, starting at 12:00pm. Allen’s special brunches are always great, and who are more deserving than moms? Check out what will be on offer:
Yogurt Parfait with Blueberry, Coconut & Lemon, White Chocolate, Crushed Walnut
Almond Butter Toast with Blueberry, Banana, Pepita, Coconut, white chocolate, granola
Sheep’s Milk Toast garlic rubbed toast, oil cured sheep’s milk cheese, crispy sliced Benton’s ham, arugula, pickled onion
Egg Frittata with fresh herbs, caramelized onion, crushed walnut, topped with arugula and tomato dijon salad
Sweet bites Chocolate liege waffles or donuts?
Strawberry Shortcake Biscuits with Powdered Sugar & Sweetened Vanilla Whip
Wow, that menu is crazy! There’s something on here for every mom! Seriously, the toasts alone ought to have everyone covered with both a sweet and a savory offering. I’ve got my eye on the Egg Frittata and the biscuits, too.
Of course, these breakfast items will go great with, say, a Double Oak Classic Saison or a Stories of Our Youth stout. I am sure there will also be a special craft cocktail made with AT’s hard seltzer if Mom doesn’t drink beer.
All in all, it should be an amazing day at the Tomb and a great way to celebrate the Mom in your life!
CAN UPDATE
Low Can Alert: Giörgū Pilsner About to Run Out!
Giörgū, Amory’s Tomb’s Italian-style pilsner has been continuously available at the Beer Garden and then in the Taproom since last summer. It was on draught for the longest time, and then when the kegs finally ran dry, Giörgū has remained available in cans. But all good things must come to an end, and AT’s supply of Giörgū is about to run out!
Italian-style Pilsner can seem like an odd beer style. Let’s face it, the first you think of when you think of Italian food and drink is not pilsner. I’d doubt it’s the second, third, fourth of fifth thing either!
Worse still, for many of us the first Italian pilsner we ever had was…well, we don’t slander other beers by name in this newsletter, but you know what I’m talking about. Not good. So when I heard the idea of Italian pilsner as a style, my first thought was “Why would you want to imitate that???”
The answer is that you wouldn’t want to imitate that particular beer! But despite the quality, or lack thereof, of the flagship Italian pilsner, some craft brewers in the US have brewers have brewed really great ones, including Amory’s Tomb.
Allen and Rick have been brewing Italian-style pilsners on-and-off for much of AT’s existence. Over the last year or so, they’ve settled on a recipe they like best, and then after another few months finally settled on name they liked, Giörgū. (It’s a fun name! Unless you have to type out repeatedly in, say, a newsletter…)
At 4.7%, Giörgū pours super-clear in the glass, and looks terrific in one of those Willi Becher glasses in the Taproom. It’s made with 100% barley from Blue Ox malthouse and dry-hopped with German Tettnanger and Hallertau MittleFriüh hops. It’s light and crisp, but still has enough flavor to stand up to Italian dishes. Even people who don’t like any hoppy or funky craft beer will like this one!
Giörgū has been a mainstay for so long now that many of us have probably taken it for granted. Now Allen tells me their supply is about to run out, and then it will go on hiatus. I have no doubt Giörgū will be back before too long, but grab one in the Taproom now while you still can!
