Weekly Roundup 6/10/26

WEEKLY ROUNDUP June 10, 2026

Hello! My name is Bob, and I didn’t receive last week’s newsletter in my inbox until 7 hours after Allen hit send! There can be only one logical reason for why it was so delayed for me. Clearly The Illuminati are intercepting and reading my emails in order to determine if I have discovered the secret behind chemtrails! (I haven’t. Yet…) While taking a break from preparing my tinfoil hat, I am writing this week’s Amory’s Tomb Newsletter!

Here’s what’s happening in and around the Tomb:

FEATURED EVENT

Big Music Weekend:  Beer Garden Dance Party Friday, Maynard Jazz Fest Saturday

There are 2 AT-related music events coming up this weekend! First, on Friday June 12th it’s the return of Asleep in a Box, who will be headlining the Friday Night Dance Party in the Beer Garden!

Asleep in a Box already brought their electronic jam band stylings to the Beer Garden once this spring, and before that visit I wrote that they had essentially no electronic footprint. It turns out I was completely wrong! Shocker! Asleep in a Box do have a Facebook page, although it was last updated in 2016.

What’s more, you can find Asleep in a Box on Apple Music. They actually just released their latest album in April (entitled “10/24/25”) and it’s nearly 2 hours long! I’m listening to some of it now. It’s really good, and clearly sounds like something that would be played at the Metrowest’s Only Open Air Dance Party!

Then on Saturday, June 13th the 5th Annual Maynard Jazz Fest is at Veteran’s Memorial Park from 12:30 to 5:00. Amory’s Tomb will be on hand to serve serve tasty libations for you to enjoy with the music.

Unless it’s slipped my mind, I don’t think I’ve ever heard jazz being played at the Amory’s Tomb Beer Garden - unless you count The Grateful Dead’s Cornell 5/8/77 concert, which seemed to be playing every Sunday for a while there. (I think there’s a case to be made!)

And even though there’s a hipster turntable in the Taproom now, I’m not sure I can see Justin spinning jazz on it anytime soon. So Jazz Fest represents your best opportunity to enjoy Amory’s Tomb beer and Jazz at the same time! Should be a cool afternoon! Well, not temperature-wise, but you get the idea…

DRAUGHT UPDATE

Ask Not Why There’s a New American Brown Ale on Tap, Just Drink It!

With almost no fanfare, Allen and Rick started offering a new American Brown Ale last Friday called “We Don’t Even Need a Reason.” Coming in at 6.4% ABV, We Don’t Even Need a Reason was brewed with Northeast grown barley from Blue Ox Malthouse in Lisbon Falls, Maine paired with Michigan-grown Chinook hops.

This is a good one! The first thing you’ll notice when getting a draught is that this may be the darkest shade of brown known to humans. You’ll pick up a little of the brown if you hold it up against the dark gray walls or if you let a lot of light shine on it, but otherwise you’d be forgiving for thinking We Don’t Even Need a Reason is a black ale - it’s not at all translucent.

But while We Don’t Even Need a Reason has a darker shade than you may be used to, it absolutely tastes and smells like an American Brown Ale. The aroma is fantastic! I get a lot of chocolate and maybe a little bit of coffee as well.

The tasting notes on the can begin with “baker’s chocolate”, and when drinking it I get that one as well. It’s chocolate, but not at all sweet, and I wouldn’t say the chocolate overpowers the other flavors, either.

The beer actually reminds me a bit of Amory’s Tomb’s award-winning Robust Porter though, as an American Brown Ale, We Don’t Even Need a Reason isn’t quite as full-bodied and is a tad hoppier than the porter. Basically, if you like Allen and Rick’s other darker offerings, you’ll like this one.

You may be wondering what would possess a small craft brewery to brew a dark American Brown Ale right as we head into the summer - a time when folks tend to drink lighter beers. If you are wondering why Allen and Rick came out with this beer at this time, I’d encourage you to go ahead and ask them.

I know what their response will be: “We Don’t Even Need a Reason”! Now you know how this beer got its name!

And since when do Allen and Rick follow conventional craft beer strategies? I think drinking an American Brown Ale in the last afternoon or early evening while listening to an electronic jam band, jazz band or just hanging out sounds like a terrific idea! We Don’t Even Need a Reason proved to be very popular in its first weekend on tap, so be sure to order on on your next visit to the Tomb.

We Don’t Even Need a Reason is available on draught and in cans now.
