Weekly Update 7/1/2026

Hello!  My name is Bob and if you think about it, 250 years is a really long time.  Such profound observations are why I’ve been asked to write this week’s Amory’s Tomb Newsletter!

Before getting to the main news, if you visited the Taproom last week you may have noticed that there was no cask offering.  Hey, we warned you that sometimes there might not be any cask draughts available.

Well, I’ve been told that there will indeed be a cask on offer for the start of July.  Interestingly, it’s going to be a version of Foeder XLII with peach, ginger and white tea added into the cask!Seriously.

If you ask me, there’s no better way to celebrate the 250th anniversary of our country’s Declaration of Independence from England than with a draft (ha!) of a cask ale that you would absolutely never find in London!  U-S-A!  U-S-A!

Beyond thumbing your nose at the King, here’s what else you can do at the Tomb this week:

FEATURED EVENT

Independence Day Weekend: Smashburgers on the 4th, Closed on the 5th

Despite his Anglophile proclivities, we all knew Allen was going to have some sort of celebration for the Fourth of July.  He wasn’t going to let the nation’s big 2-5-0 go by without something special, right?

But what would it be?  A giant arch?  Cage fights?  Lee Greenwood performing in the Beer Garden?  Sorry, no.  You’ll definitely need to go somewhere else for those things.  No, it’s smashburgers!!!

That’s right, on Saturday July 4th from 12:00pm to 6:00pm, weather permitting, Allen will be serving up smashburgers!  With apologies to hotdogs and apple pie, hamburgers are the quintessential American food, and you know Allen will do them up right!  And you know what goes well with a great smashburger?  Beer, of course!

You should definitely plan to make part of your 4th of July celebration be a visit to the Taproom and Beer Garden to celebrate our nation’s birthday with a burger and a beer!  Just be sure to get there before 6:00pm, though, because that’s when Amory’s Tomb is closing for the day.

Since they’ve decided to be open on the 4th, when many other craft breweries will be closed, Allen and Rick weren’t sure what to do on the following day.  So they decided to put it to an employee vote.

And Justin voted for the day off!  Therefore, Amory’s Tomb will be closed on Sunday, July 5th.  Be sure to buy enough cans on Saturday to hold you over the weekend!

DRAUGHT UPDATE

Controversial Draught IPA Rule Means We Need to Drink More IPA Draughts!

When was the last time Amory’s Tomb had not one, but two recently brewed IPA’s available in cans?  No, that’s not a rhetorical question!  It must have happened at some point in the past, right?  Well I can’t remember when, but it’s happening now.

The first IPA, released in May, was Unspoken Emoji.  We covered this one in a prior newsletter, and it’s a terrific West Coast-style IPA with a wonderful, hoppy aroma.

The newer IPA is called A Great Cosmic Wave.  This one is a hazy, modern IPA.  Coming in at 7.5% ABV, A Great Cosmic Wave is brewed with 100% Northeast grown floor malt from Blue Ox Malthouse and Aurora Mills & Farm flaked spelt alongside Azalea®, Cashmere and ErebusTM hops.  Allen says it is more akin to Rolling Through Outer Space, the IPA that preceded Unspoken Emojis.

Both Unspoken Emoji and A Great Cosmic Wave are available in cans to-go in the Taproom.  You’ll easily be able to find them because their cans are the only AT cans in the cooler that have bright colors.

Here’s the thing, though.  In what surely must be one of the least-advised business strategies for an American craft brewery, Allen and Rick (well, really just Allen on this one) have a strict rule of having only one IPA on draught at a time.  Right now, that draught IPA is Unspoken Emoji, which is nearing it’s end.  Therefore, the only way we can finally get a chance to taste the new IPA on tap is to first drink a lot of the current IPA!

If you’ve got a friend who likes IPAs first-and-foremost, or maybe even thinks they only like IPAs, here’s your chance!  Invite that person to Amory’s Tomb and buy them a cold draught of Unspoken Emoji.  They won’t be disappointed!  Get one for yourself, too.  I’m sure Unspoken Emoji goes well with smash burgers, by the way.

Look, I don’t set the rules, I just write about them.  Crazy as it sounds, “thou shalt have only one IPA at a time on tap” is the rule at Amory’s Tomb.  The sooner we drain Allen and Rick of their last drop of Unspoken Emoji, the sooner enough we’ll be able to enjoy our first keg of A Great Cosmic Wave!
