Weekly Roundup 5/20/26

WEEKLY ROUNDUP May 20, 2026

Hello!  My name is Bob, and I recently lost my streak in Wordle at 135 days.  It was one of those “_A_ER” words that got me. In order to take my mind off the fact that I just flushed four and a half months of puzzle solving down the toilet, I am writing this week’s Amory’s Tomb Newsletter.

It’s worth noting up front that the Beer Garden is officially open, like with taps and someone out there to serve beer to you and everything!  The Beer Garden Taps are open, weather permitting, during the following days/hours:

Friday - 4:00pm to 8:00pm
Saturday - 2:00pm to 8:00pm
Sunday - 12:00pm to 4:00pm

Of course, if you are there on a different day and time, or you are looking for a draught that isn’t on tap in the Beer Garden, you can always come inside and Justin will be happy to give you a beer in a plastic cup to take out with you.

If you ask me, the best thing about the Beer Garden is that all the dogs have returned!  We don’t have the longest outdoor beer season in New England, so enjoy it while you can!

FEATURED EVENT

Wurst Nacht Returns on Thursday, May 21st!

It’s time again for the unsanctioned Wurst Nacht to return to the Taproom on May 21st at 7:00pm. “What’s Wurst Nacht?, you ask, “and why is it unsanctioned?” Good questions!

On one Thursday each month, Keith and Kevin show up to Amory’s Tomb parking lot with a charcoal grill and bunch of sausages, just like a tailgate. They grill up these sausages, bring them in to the Taproom and everybody gets to eat them! That’s it! It’s Wurst Nacht!

The sausages tend not to all be your generic, Fenway-style sausages, though they have some of those, and there is nothing wrong with getting a sausage at Fenway. (Beats watching the team, anyway!) In past Würst Nachts, Keith and Kevin had brought in sausages that are supposedly from animals that I didn’t realize could even be turned into sausage, or ever considered eating before. I don’t ask too many questions because, you know, sausages…

That ties to the “unsanctioned” part. Other than allowing a couple of their best patrons to walk in the back door with a few plates of cooked sausages, Allen and Rick have nothing to do with this event. As Allen says - “Meat at your own risk!”

Allen and Rick also don’t charge anything for Wurst Nächt. There are a couple of ways you can pay Keith and Kevin. First, you can buy them a beer. Alternatively, you can contribute to the fund that will buy next month’s sausages.

And there you have it - Würst Nächt, this Thursday evening, May 21st, at 7:00pm!

DRAUGHT UPDATE

The World is a Better Place Today Because Man Bun Pilsner is Finally Back on Draught!!!!

It came back, it really came back! After what seemed like years (Allen swears it’s like 8 months) Man Bun Pilsner is finally back on draught, making its Taproom draught debut!

Man Bun is my favorite of the Amory’s Tomb “regulars”. I’ve written before about how Allen and Rick may be known for their farmhouse ales, but they sneakily produce some of the best lagers around. And much like how Saison Classic is the saison from which all other Amory’s Tomb saisons flow, I would argue that Man Bun is the lager from which all the other great AT lagers orginate.

It’s the perfect lager for just about anything. I have recommended to first-time visitors who I know will not like the IPAs or farmhouse ales, and it is always a hit. Even if you do enjoy saisons and hoppier beers, as I do, you will still love Man Bun.

At 4.7%, Man Bun is a Czech-style Pilsner brewed with 100% New England grown and malted barley from Blue Ox Malthouse in Lisbon Falls, Maine and imported Czech Saaz hops. The result is a lager that can rightly be described as clean and refreshing, but also has plenty of flavor. Personally, I get bread flavors, maybe a little bit of lemon.

When I say I am a huge fan, I’m not kidding! I’ve checked in Man Bun on Untappd 88 times! I’ve enjoyed Man Bun many ways before - in a can or in a plastic cup, at the PC or at home. But the truly best way to enjoy a Man Bun Pilsner is in a dimple mug in the Taproom!

I’m sure after all the complaints (I know I wasn’t the only one remarking on its absence!) Allen and Rick brewed plenty of Man Bun this time. But why take any chances? Get yourself down to the Taproom and get a Man Bun today!
